How it works
Most people buying a used car pay for at least part of it monthly. In practice the process is short:
- Pick the car first. The car and its price determine what the finance looks like, so start there.
- Tell us your deposit and the term you want. A bigger deposit or a shorter term means less interest overall but a higher monthly payment.
- We put your details to a finance provider. They run a credit check and come back with a decision and a rate.
- You review the agreement before signing anything. You will get the full figures in writing — the total amount payable, the APR and the monthly payment — and you are free to walk away.
- Once it is signed and paid out, the car is yours to collect.
What affects your monthly payment
- Deposit — cash, a part-exchange, or both. Part-exchange counts towards your deposit.
- Term — usually somewhere between two and five years.
- Your credit history — this is the main driver of the rate you are offered.
- The car itself — age, mileage and value all factor in.
What you will need
- A full UK driving licence.
- Proof of address and three years of address history.
- Proof of income — recent payslips or bank statements, or accounts if you are self-employed.
- Your bank details for the direct debit.
If your credit history is not perfect
It is worth asking rather than assuming the answer is no. Plenty of people with a patchy file, thin credit history or past problems are still able to get finance, usually at a higher rate. What we will not do is tell you that you are guaranteed to be approved, because nobody can honestly say that before a lender has looked at your file.
A few honest words on cost
Finance is convenient but it is not free — over the full term you will pay more than the cash price. If you can put down a larger deposit or take a shorter term, do. And always compare the total amount payable between options, not just the monthly figure, because a low monthly payment stretched over a long term can quietly cost considerably more.
Talk to us about it
Finance availability and rates depend on the provider and on your circumstances, so the sensible next step is a conversation rather than a form. Call us on 07946 052784 or send us a message with the car you are interested in and roughly what deposit you have in mind, and we will talk you through the realistic options.
Any credit agreement is subject to status and affordability checks. Applicants must be 18 or over and a UK resident.
